ICCBBA ONE WORLD AWARD RECIPIENT - 2014

Redlands, CA, October 10, 2014: ICCBBA is pleased to announce Dr. Edwin A. Steane as the recipient of the 2014 One World Award. Dr. Steane was a pioneer in the development of ISBT 128 and a powerful advocate for global standardization. The award recognizes his vision in identifying the need to improve standards for blood transfusion information technology and for his enthusiasm and determination to achieve a well-structured framework on which future generations of technology developers and transfusion specialists could build. The award will be presented at an evening celebration of the 20th anniversary of ICCBBA to be held on October 26th during the AABB annual meeting.

ICCBBA ENCOURAGES THE USE OF ISBT 128 CODING AND LABELING FOR FECAL TRANSPLANT MATERIAL

Redlands, CA, September 26, 2013: Responding to the developing use of fecal transplantation as an effective clinical intervention, and recognizing that such material falls within the scope of medical products of human origin, ICCBBA announced that ISBT 128 will support the coding and labeling of fecal transplant material and encourages facilities to implement the standard in this field. Initially there will be a single generic product code for fecal transplant material but if requirements for more specific labeling are developed additional codes can be made available.

ICCBBA is the international not-for-profit standards body with a mission to enhance patient safety by promoting and managing the ISBT 128 international information standard for use with medical products of human origin. ICCBBA's Board of Directors and members of its Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) are volunteers who give freely of their time and effort. ICCBBA has a small staff who manage the technical documentation and databases, promote and support the global implementation of the standard, organize technical meetings, and administer registration and licensing.
