Mission

ICCBBA enhances safety for patients by managing the ISBT 128 international information standard for use in transfusion and transplantation

Goals

Seek to establish international standards for transfusion medicine and transplantation for electronic data interchange protocols.

Develop and manage the assignment of facility and product identification numbers, codes and symbols, and their associated databases, that conform to approved international standards and national guidelines.

Assist in the standardization and maintenance of accepted electronic data interface protocols for data transfer and provide code tables for such protocols.

Serve as a liaison to government agencies, industry, standards setting and national and international organizations on the broad subject of standardization in information technology for transfusion medicine and transplantation, including data structures, data transfer, data interchange protocols, and labeling.

Develop and promote educational programs on the activities of ICCBBA, and the programs, policies and standards as they are established and modified.

Provide technical consultation regarding the implementation and management of accepted international standards and national guidelines.

Promote the continued development in transfusion medicine and transplantation of common data structures for information technology, data processing, exchange and transfer, and labeling.

Establish advisory groups to assist in achieving the ICCBBA Mission and Goals.
